Replacing wheelchair tires can be difficult and without the proper tools it is close to impossible.  The diameter of most solid wheelchair tires is typically 2″ – 3″ smaller than the wheel you’ll be putting them on. Solid wheelchair tires are made from a tough material called urethane (polyurethane). They are puncture proof with a solid foam/rubber insert that can be difficult to stretch across the wheel. These tires are essentially flat-free and require little to no maintenance as compared to pneumatic (air filled) rubber tires. A guide to replacing your solid wheelchair tires can be found here. It is an excellent resource.
