What is the difference between lightweight and ultra lightweight wheelchairs?
Lightweight and ultra-lightweight wheelchairs both provide freedom to the user with the least amount of effort. The frames and most of the components are made from titanium or aluminum, so they’ll weigh anywhere from 11 – 35 lbs. They reduce upper body stress and increase the overall mobility of the user.
The difference between them typically comes down to folding vs rigid frames. Folded wheelchair frames typically weigh a bit more and are made from a light aluminum alloy. Ultra-lightweight wheelchairs are typically manufactured with rigid frames that do not fold and are made from either titanium or aluminum with some being as light as 11 lbs. The Tilite ZR Series 2 (pictured) is one of the lightest wheelchairs on the market.
